I'm Rick, let's keep this simple....

Whenever possible

  • I Do the work myself.

  • No subs- I don't invite strangers to your house.

  • I finish your job, before I start the next

I would rather spend time on your project, doing the work myself, instead of working the phones. I don't bring others into your home to do the actual work.  Let's keep things simple, clear, upfront, and straightforward.  No surprises.  Let's get this done!

What Do You Need Done?

Planning & Design
Carpentry
Plumbing
Electrical
Painting

We have options depending on your needs.   CAD sketches, materials lists, and blueprints, Home Designer 3D.  Don't need that?  Let's talk, or show me pics of what you like.

Every project has to start with good bones, whether it's new, a remodel, or a rehab.  Let's first make sure everything is square and sound.  Move a wall, add a window, build a bookcase, reface your cabinets?

Bathroom upgrades are my favorites, let's make something functional and relaxing.  Not ready?  I can fix leaks and drips, if you still want to keep your old stuff.

If it is downstream of your breaker box, I can probably do it.  Lights, outlets, GFI's.  Ever thought about dimmable LED lights?  They are inexpensive, versatile, and look great!

Interior painting, staining, refinishing, and varnishing.  My favorite is natural look wood stains and varnish and bold paint colors inside.  If you need exterior trim done, we can talk about it.

Hi, I'm Rick.  If I'm not fixing or building something, I'm hiking, kayaking, or biking around the Valley.  I love the land and the people here.

I came to Skagit Valley as a teenager a good four decades ago.  As a high school student and farm hand, I saved up enough money to buy a small dairy farm and herd of cows.  But the economy changed, and farmers had to either get big or get out.  Industrial scale farming was not my thing.

I sold the farm and went back to college for a degree in Fish and Wildlife Management, and worked in that field for the next 20 years.  It was challenging and almost always interesting- and a lot easier than farming.  I don't think anyone works harder than farmers.

My dad was an old-school carpenter, the kind that did everything.  From pouring the foundation, to framing, plumbing and wiring, finish carpentry, cabinet making, painting- everything.  When he pointed to a house and said, "I built that," it meant that his hands had been on every inch of it.  I didn’t realize it at the time, but working summers and helping on weekends gained me skills that allowed me to work my way through college.  Then, with time around the regular fish and wildlife job, to remodel homes to rent and sell, and to build our own dream home with my wife in Conway.

Now that I'm not counting fish or trapping elk any more, my lifelong side job has become my main occupation.  Things have come full circle, and I’ll finish my working career as it started- working and thinking with my hands to make homes that people want to live in.  And as much as possible, I do it the old way.

When I’m building your house, I am building your house.   With my hands and my tools.  I’m not on the phone looking for someone else to build your house.  Or to make that addition, or to do your remodel.

If you’re looking to build new, let’s talk.  If you have a room that needs attention, or some remodeling, or if there’s just something about your home that doesn’t fit your lifestyle - let me know.  I'd be happy to listen.  Let’s make a plan and get to work.
